Artist Statement
I sew because I believe clothes should change to fit people, instead of people thinking they have to change to fit their clothes. Watching the joy on a person’s face when they wear something I’ve made or tailored for them is a shining moment in my life. Comfort is especially crucial on stage, as actors shine brighter when they feel at ease in their costumes.
I enjoy Assistant Costume Designing because it allows me to support the designer. Taking on some of the mental load by handling responsibilities such as fitting notes and paperwork helps the designer focus on their creative vision, and I find deep satisfaction in taking on these tasks.
It is important for me to foster a safe and warm environment, where there are learning opportunities. Guiding someone through a skill I’ve learned, or being taught a new one myself. I love to learn and grow, stretching my skill and creative vision to new heights while continuing to build and refine what I’ve already learned.
My ultimate aim is to ensure that each production I work on runs smoothly, like a well-tailored garment. By managing the details and logistics behind the scenes, I help create a seamless experience for both the cast and crew that, in turn, enhances the audience’s experience.
